As research continues into its positive effects, a recent study suggests hormone therapy may also be useful in slowing down atherosclerosis, a narrowing of the arteries due to plaque buildup. Atherosclerosis is among the most common factors in heart disease.
The study involves using hormone therapy to examine how it may reduce atherosclerosis in otherwise healthy women currently in the postmenopausal phase. Using the data, researchers determined that the therapy “significantly reduced” of key factors that lead to inflammation. Interestingly, women that were about five years away from reaching the menopause showed the largest benefits versus those with over a decade since having undergone menopause.
